The enormous bulk of Ailsa Craig is seen around ten miles offshore from the town of Girvan on the Ayrshire coast. This rocky island rises over 1100ft out of the sea and is visible for miles around. |

The rail journey through the Pennine Hills to Buxton in Derbyshire's Peak District National Park is one of northern England's scenic routes. These photos were taken en route to the spa town. ![]() ![]() LEFT: The village of Chapel-en-le-Frith is seen here nestling in the dale through the grubby windows of the train, with the Pennine Hills evident in the background. RIGHT: Rolling countryside and dry-stone walls surround the rural Dove Holes station. |
