Arriva Trains Wales 158 Vintage Thumper
Arriva Trains Wales Sprinter 158827 is seen departing Ludlow station, Shropshire, in Ginsters promotional livery, on 1st April 2004. On 7th February 2004, South Central trains DEMU 205009 stands at Ashford International, having arrived with the 1124 working from Hastings. These aging units have since been replaced with Class 171 DMUs.

Wessex Class 158 Wessex Class 150
Wessex Trains run daytime hourly services between Cardiff Central and Portsmouth Harbour. SWT Plastic Pig SWT Class 159
South West Trains' Wessex Electric Class 442s were, until recently, used on services between Weymouth and London Waterloo. This photo shows unit 2410 at Southampton Central en route to the Dorset resort on 17th June 2004. Sadly these excellent units were retired in early 2007. South West Trains DMU 159002 pauses at Southampton Central on the morning of 3rd July 2005 with a London Waterloo - Plymouth service.

Wessex Class 153s
These photographs depict a pair of single car Wessex Trains Class 153s as they depart
Southampton Central on 17th June 2004 with a service to Swindon.

SWT Turbostar Thames Trains express
South West Trains Turbostar DMU 170305 is pictured at Southampton Central on 17th June 2004 with a Romsey-Totton service.
These units were sadly replaced with older Class 158 units in late 2006.
Still awaiting rebranding to reflect its new operator, First Great Western Link, 166216 arrives at North Camp station on 24th July 2004 in Thames Trains livery, with a fast service to Reading.

Wessex Class 153 Central Class 158 down south
Single car Sprinter 153370 of Wessex Trains is seen here at Exeter Central on 31st July 2004 with an Exmouth-bound service 158782 in the livery of previous operator Central Trains leaves Havant station with a Wessex Trains Alphaline service to Cardiff Central on 5th August 2004.

Silverlink Metro Class 313 First Great Western Link DMU

Island Line stock
The Isle of Wight's Island Line franchise operates seven ex-London Underground Northern Line units between the termini of
Ryde Pier Head and Shanklin. These trains date back to 1938 and are still going strong almost 70 years later!
This picture shows unit 483004 in the popular dinosaur livery, about to depart from Ryde Pier Head with the 10.23 service to Shanklin on 11th September 2004. This photo depicts 483007 at Shanklin station in classic London Underground maroon livery, ready to form the 12.53 Ryde Pier Head service.

South Eastern Trains introduced Class 375 Electrostar EMUs on middle-distance services
from London to the Kent Coast to replace 1960s slam door stock.
This photo shows unit 375918 having just arrived at Chatham station from London Victoria on Saturday 25th September 2004. This picture shows 375704 at Sittingbourne on 5th February 2005 with an early afternoon service for London Victoria.

SWT Juniper SWT Desiro

Midland Meridians WAGN Class 317
The latest addition to the Midland Mainline fleet is the Class 222 Meridian DEMU. These units work semi-fast services between London St Pancras and Derbyshire/Yorkshire. This photo shows an unidentified Meridian in platform 9 at the new St Pancras domestic terminus on 9th Oct '04. Former West Anglia Great Northern unit 317305 is seen at London St Pancras on 9th October 2004 forming the 10.03 Thameslink service to Bedford.

Norfolk Festival Class 153 Derwent Valley Mills Turbostar
Single car Sprinter unit 153314 of 'one' Anglia is photographed on arrival in Platform 6 at Cambridge on 2nd November 2004, sporting Norfolk Festival promotional livery. Looking very smart in Derwent Valley Mills promotional colours, Central Trains Turbostar 170399 is seen in Platform 3 at Ely on 2nd November 2004, shortly before its departure to Birmingham New Street.

Great Eastern Class 360s
Former franchise operator Great Eastern introduced Siemens Class 360 EMUs on routes to Essex and Suffolk from London Liverpool Street.
Now under the umbrella of 'one' Railway, these units still wear the familiar blue, white and pink livery of First Great Eastern.
This picture depicts unit 360113 arriving in Platform 2 at Ipswich on 2nd November 2004, with a late-running afternoon service to London Liverpool Street. This photo shows the same unit at the Essex terminus of Clacton on 22nd January 2005, having just arrived with the 11:08 from Liverpool Street.

Photographed at Brighton on 13th November 2004, Southern EMU 319214 stands in Platform 4 wearing Continental Airlines promotional livery. Photographed on 30th October 2004, 'one' Anglia EMU 321446 is seen at London Liverpool Street wearing its latest livery.
 
Great Eastern Class 315 Silverlink Class 321
Still wearing the colours of former franchise operator Great Eastern, surburban EMU 315811 is seen at London Liverpool Street on 30th October 2004, now in the hands of 'one' Anglia railway. EMU 321414 of Silverlink stands at London Euston on 11th December 2004 prior to departing with a stopping service to Northampton.
 
Virgin Pendolino Silverlink Class 313
Virgin West Coast Pendolino 390042 is seen in the platform at London Euston on 11th December 2004 ready to form an intercity service to Liverpool Lime Street. Dual voltage EMU 313114 of Silverlink is seen under the wires at St Albans Abbey on 11th December 2004, having arrived with a morning service from Watford Junction. This line was, until recently, under threat of closure.
 
SWT Triple Four South Eastern Class 465
South West Trains' five car Desiro unit 444031 is pictured in Platform 13 at London Waterloo on 1st January 2005, awaiting its passengers for the 15.09 service to Portsmouth Harbour via Eastleigh. This is one of a growing number of Triple Fours now in traffic following the continued withdrawal of the company's Class 421 slam door units. Still in long-defunct Network SouthEast livery, South Eastern trains Networker EMU 465034 departs London Bridge on 29th January 2005 with a Charing Cross to Dartford service.

Thameslink Class 319 Southern Class 508
Thameslink dual voltage EMU 319458 arrives at London Bridge station on Saturday 29th January 2005, with a Brighton to Kings Cross service. One of a small number of this type in service with South Eastern Trains, EMU 508209 is seen at Sheerness-on-Sea on 5th February 2005. These three car units are more generally associated with Merseyrail in the North West of England.

Chiltern Bubble Cars
Aylesbury has become home to a collection of heritage DMU bubble Cars.
These photographs were taken at the Buckinghamshire station on Saturday 8th January 2005.
960010 looks smart in maroon British Railways livery. 960013 is pictured in Network SouthEast livery.
960014 wears the BR blue/grey scheme with Chiltern Railways decals. Two-car unit 960301 also wears Chiltern Railways titles and is used for Sandite duties during the leaf fall season.
960015 now wears departmental identity 975042 and is used by Network Rail for route learning and Sandite duties. A further view of two-car unit 960301 from the opposite end.
 
Great Eastern Class 321s
Now operated by .'one' Railway, these Class 321 EMUs still remain in the colours of former operator Great Eastern
and are used for local and semi-fast services from London Liverpool Street.
This picture shows unit 321444 stood in Platform 2 at the interchange station of Thorpe-le-Soken, Essex, with a stopping service to Colchester. This photograph depicts 321330 on arrival at the Essex terminus of Walton-on-Naze, with the 14:26 from Thorpe-le-Soken.
 
Southern Electrostar Southern Class 456
Pictured on 5th February 2004 on the approach to Platform 3 at Barnham, Southern Electrostar EMU 377107 forms the 08:46 service to London Bridge. Southern Trains EMU 456012 is pictured on 19th February 2005 at Beckenham Junction in former Network SouthEast livery, waiting to depart with an early afternoon suburban service to London Bridge via Tulse Hill.
 
Croydon Tramlink First North Western Class 322
The excellent Croydon Tramlink network provides a fast and frequent service across South East London. Unit 2537 is pictured at the terminus of Elmers End on 19th February 2005 about to depart with a service to Wimbledon. Now operated by 'one' Railway, EMU 322484 looks a long way from home in former First North Western livery. Pictured on 19th February 2005, she is seen on arrival at Romford station, having just formed a late afternoon shuttle service from Upminster.
 
Heathrow Express Class 332 Central Turbostar
Similar to the Class 333 EMUs operated by West Yorkshire Metro on the Airedale Line, Heathrow Express unit 332013 is seen awaiting its passengers in Platform 7 at London Paddington on 27th March 2005. Seen on departure from Worcester Foregate Street, Central Trains Turbostar DMU 170510 is pictured beneath the semaphores on the approach to Shrub Hill station on 2nd May 2005.
 
Gatwick Express Darth Vaders
Gatwick Express operates eight Alstom built Class 460 EMUs on its dedicated airport link to London Victoria.
This photo depicts 460001 as it speeds through Clapham Junction on 22nd May 2005 with an early afternoon 'down' service to the airport. This picture shows 460005 wearing Continental Airlines livery at Gatwick Airport station on 19th June 2004.
 
Thameslink Class 319 South Eastern Class 376
On 22nd May 2005 Thameslink dual-voltage unit 319449 is pictured at London Bridge in the company's latest livery, with a northbound service to Bedford. South Eastern Trains' latest inner suburban EMUs have recently begun operating out of London Charing Cross and Cannon Street stations. 376008 is seen arriving at London Bridge on 22nd May 2005 with a Kent-bound afternoon working.
 
Southern Slam Door Silverlink Class 150
Pictured during the last weeks of its working life, Southern slam door EMU 421859 is seen stabled in Platform 17 at London Victoria on 22nd May 2005, awaiting a Monday morning rush hour duty the following day. Two-car DMU 150120 of Silverlink Metro stands in Platform 3 at Gospel Oak, on the North London Line, waiting to depart with the 12:55 service to Dalston Kingsland on Saturday 29th October 2005.
 
Southern Class 455s
Southern Railway operates a fleet of Class 455 EMUs over the south London suburban lines into their London terminus at Victoria station.

Devon & Cornwall Class 153 St Ives Bay Line Class 153
Single car unit 153308 is photographed at St Ives, Cornwall, in Devon & Cornwall promotional livery, on the 2nd April 2006 - the day after the Wessex Trains franchise transferred to First Great Western. 153329 of First Great Western is seen in St Ives Bay Line livery on departure from Par station, Cornwall on 7th April 2006. The service is bound for Newquay, via the Atlantic Coast Line.
 
Looe Valley Class 153 First Great Western Class 150
Another Class 153 DMU, this time 153372, is about to depart from Looe, Cornwall, with a service to Liskeard on 1st April 2006 - the inaugrual day of First Great Western's franchise. On 5th April 2006, 150254 of First Great Western is seen negotiating the famous sea wall stretch at Dawlish, Devon, with a Penzance to Cardiff Central service.
 
Anglia Class 153 Southern Class 171
Single car unit 153322 of 'one' Anglia is photographed in the platform at the terminus station of Sudbury, Suffolk on Saturday 22nd April 2006, waiting to depart with the 14:00 to Marks Tey. On Sunday 30th April 2006 Southern two-car DMU 171722 stands in the platform at Ashford International, having just arrived as the 10:03 service from Eastbourne.
 
TransPennine 158 out west one Anglia suburban EMU
DMU Sprinter unit 158764 makes an unusual sight in TransPennine Express livery as it leaves Bristol Temple Meads station with a First Great Western service on 8th September 2006. 315818 is seen here in 'one' livery on 9th December 2006 at London Liverpool Street, awaiting passengers for a late morning service to Cheshunt.
 
Hybrid 158 down south TransPennine 158 in the south
An unusual sight at Cosham station, Hampshire on 21st February 2007 was this unidentified Class 158 DMU in Central Trains livery with TPE decals. Coupled to a TPE unit, these trains are providing extra cover on FGW services. Two-car DMU 158766 is seen passing St Denys station, Hampshire with a First Great Western late morning service from Cardiff Central to Portsmouth Harbour. This is one of a number of similar units which have recently been repositioned from former TransPennine routes in the north.
 
SWT Route Learner SWT Class 158
In 2005 South West Trains acquired this 'heritage' Class 121 'bubble car' 960012 John Cameron for driver training and route learning purposes. On 3rd April 2007, the unit is photographed stabled in a bay platform at its home base of Salisbury. Seen arriving at Eastleigh on 26th January 2008 with an afternoon Romsey to Salisbury service, two-car DMU 158883 looks resplendent in South West Trains livery.

Seen arriving in Platform 5 at Basingstoke on 8th February 2008 is First Great Western Link DMU 165128, due to work the 12:37 service to Reading.
